Make a budget and stick to it

It can be easy to lose track when you hit the shops Christmas shopping, especially if you keep seeing things for people already taken care of. Keep an eye on your Christmas spending by keeping track of everything. Perhaps note things down in a journal, keep hold of your receipts or better yet, jot down who you have to buy for in a spreadsheet, how much you’re looking to spend and what you’ve got them. Why not set yourself a little challenge and aim to beat the budget!

Make use of loyalty cards

Beauty shop

They may bulk out your purse but there’s no better time than Christmas to crack out the loyalty points. Ensure you sign up to, and always carry your loyalty cards with you for shops you know you go to frequently. Also, when buying something online see if the retailer offers an introductory discount or scheme you can take advantage of.

Enjoy watching your points accumulate and you’ll either be able to treat yourself, get a gift for someone for nothing, or better yet, start the saving for next year.

Don’t forget to look out for loyalty club events like Boots famous 3 for 2!

Look out for Black Friday sales

Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon with Black Friday discounts. They’ll start a few days before the actual day (Friday 27th) and go on until Tuesday the following week. The best deals get out early so if you’ve got your sight set on something in store, it’s going to be an early start and queuing is recommended. Online won’t escape the frenzy either, look out for deals with your favourite retailers. The online deals may start on the 27th but the discounts will escalate with Cyber Monday on the 30th. Anything Goes Lifestyle and Coupon Mama UK will be publishing Black Friday deals too!

The only issue with these sites is remembering to look at them before you buy anything. But once you’ve established a good routine you can expect to save hundreds of pounds per year, especially considering you can save money on everything from household bills and food shopping to entertainment, clothing and beauty items.

Look out for coupons & discount codes

You’re not guaranteed to get a deal every time but it is certainly worth the look.  Aside from checking with the retailer direct (and their offers page) do a quick search for discount codes with sites like Vouchercodes, Hot Deals and
