I have to admit, I was feeling quite the sourpuss of late and this show was just what I needed. Nothing quite lifts your spirits like the Pantomime.
The moment you walk into the theatre you just know it’s going to be a magical night. Though little do you realise how magical it is. From slight of hand to large scale illusions, Cinderella is full of surprises.
Of course, Pantomime wouldn’t be Pantomime without a barrel of laughs and this show delivers. Brian Conley and Gok Wan are clearly magical friends, a pantomime comedic dream team who had us laughing uncontrollably throughout the night; a couple of unscripted giggles were a particular highlight, something unexpected all round that’ll unlikely be seen again. But the beauty of Panto is when you go to see it, no doubt you’ll have some other unscripted event that’ll will surely leave you in stitches.
I was blown away by the production level of this show too; you’ll be transported from bustling village to enchanted forest and of course Prince Charming’s castle, with a trip to the stars thrown in for good measure. The intricacies of each set was mesmerising. Of course, there is glitz and glam in abundance too.
Enjoy cheap but funny local ‘in’ jokes and songs, childish toilet humour, Fortnite dance moves and flossing and even a rendition of ‘Baby Shark’; young and old, this show can be appreciated by all. Especially with such a talented a cast as this, it’ll be hard to pick a favourite (yes including the ‘So Gorgeous’ villainous step sisters).
It’s a classic, feel good, light hearted show with happy endings all round. Don’t we all need a bit of that this Christmas?
Whether you’re in need of Christmas spirit, looking to uphold tradition or simply want a great night out, there is only one show that should be at the top of your list (yes, this one!).
