Countries:

Sri Lanka 2019 travel

Top of the country hit list is Sri Lanka. I had the pleasure of visiting here in 2016, funnily, it wasn’t even a destination at the top of my hit list. I went to the travel agents to enquire about the Maldives. My rule of thumb is, if I am travelling more than 4-5 hours anywhere (especially if there is a considerable time difference), I want to go for more than a week, but the Maldives isn’t a destination you spend longer than a week. The travel agent suggested Sri Lanka as a common combined trip with the Maldives and I am so glad she did.

Sri Lanka is rich in culture, history, natural resource and outstanding beauty. It’s everything you could possibly want from a destination holiday; if you’re looking to enjoy some quality on the beach with a coconut cocktail and masseuse on hand- they’ve got it; and some striking ones at that with waves from the Indian Ocean lapping at your feet.

How about a safari? Want to get up close with some of the worlds most majestic and beautiful creatures and animals? You’ve got plenty of choice all across the country and can even hand feed the elephants.

Of course, their temples are on the must-see list too. In particular the Temple of the Tooth is just outstanding and is really interesting, especially if you go in time for the ceremonies. The Dambulla cave temple was also a highlight on our tour (near Sigiriya).

Cities:

Seattle is on our hit list this year and we’re pleased to see it’s also on the must-visit city for 2019.

Home to Starbucks and Amazon, the city appears to be bustling with innovation and creativity. With a hilly and classic city landscape, fresh fish available at the enticing (and famous) Pike Place Market, and of course the iconic Space Needle there are plenty, often unspoken reasons to visit Seattle. For us, Discovery Park is high on our hit list with unparalleled sights only this region of the country can offer.

Best for Value:

Maldives has topped the ‘best value’ list for 2019. So, if you thought it was once unimaginable, this could be your year to visit. And as it is a country that is vanishing before our very eyes, it’s not something you should sit on.

Generally, the Maldives is a destination known for ultimate luxury; situating yourself on an island (because you pretty much can’t go anywhere else!) for the duration of your break, catching rays, consuming cocktails and eating copious amounts of food. Because of the limitations with visiting the Maldives, it’s often been perceived as being very pricey.

However, it’s becoming more common for guesthouses to pop-up on non-resort islands. The beauty being, more flexibility. You can still enjoy the beauty of the beaches and locations, participate in island excursions like scuba diving and pick places that you want to eat. We’ll bet it’s just as glamourous and you get to do it all your way.
