Thank to everyone who entered our Perfect Pets Lockdown Poems competition last year. Unfortunately, there were not enough entries to enable Perfect Pets to publish all of the submission in a dedicated book. However, we wanted to share a post with our winners’ poems and here they are! Huge well done to all of our winners and entrants- it’s not easy to write poems and all of you deserve a pat on the back.

To claim your prize, please email your name, email address, phone number and postal address to: info@anythinggoeslifestyle.co.uk

1st place poem by Jac and winner of £100

Looking out at the world so much has changed,

Humans in masks so very strange,

Mine are all at home 24/7,

and now we don’t go to bed till after 11,

Lots of walks each and every day,

But all the humans stay 2 feet away,

After an hour we head back home,

I lay in the garden and chew on a bone

2020 has been quite a year,

I’ve enjoyed all my cuddles and scratching of ears,

But it’s time for my humans to get their lives back,

And I’ll resume my position being sprawled on my back.

2nd place poem by James Strain and winner of £25

Lockdown has happened

Overwhelming and saddened

Contagious and confining

Kids are wall climbing

Dolly has arrived, all fluffy and black

Overjoyed and spirits heightened

We are no longer frightened

Never looked back, kids faces are brightened!

3rd place poem by Liz Proctor titled:  ‘Lockdown – No Facemask Required’ and winner of a Perfect Pets book of your choice

I’m out in the open,

in the fresh air.

No facemask required.

I’m on a paddleboard,

without a care.

No facemask required.

My ears are flapping,

my tongue a lapping.

No facemask required.

On the open sea,

enjoying the breeze,

No facemask required.

Lockdown was boring,

but here is the sun.

No facemask required.

No more sofa snoring,

time to have some fun.

No facemask required.

She is my human,

and I am her dog.

so… NO.FACEMASK.REQUIRED

4th place poem by Ewoks and winner of a Perfect Pets book of your choice

I looked down to where she lay,

Her paw upon my knee,

And I knew there was no other place,

That I would rather be,

I was locked down for being vulnerable,

(I’d finished chemo a month prior),

Those letters from the Government,

Told me that my risk was higher,

So it was just me and Cookie,

I thought we’d both go round the bend!

But through those months of me and her,

She proved she was my best friend.

We’d sit together, reading books,

Or watching a little telly,

She’d tuck herself in by my side,

Begging me to rub her belly,

She kept my loneliness at bay,

And I count myself so lucky,

That whenever I wanted company,

I had my little Cookie!
