Party season is upon us and the shops are heaving with the latest trends and styles ready for Christmas. This year, take the opportunity to try something different. We have picked some winter 2017 catwalk trends that you can steal for a fashionable party season.

Long, pin-straight, shiny hair

Stay away from the bouncy blow-drys for your Christmas parties this season – the catwalks are favouring long, straight, shiny hair. The preppy school look is cool with neat ponytails and plaits, plus bows at the nape of the neck and slides to keep hair sleek and tidy.

The hair at Rochas by Paul Hanlon was scraped back into low looped ponytails with a black bow above the loop. If you don’t have long hair you can use good quality hair extensions to recreate this polished look for your Christmas party.

Sixties style false lashes

While hair trends are sleek and minimalist, think the opposite for lashes – the bigger the better. Take the volume out of the hair and into the lashes!

Sixties icon Twiggy is clearly an inspiration on the catwalk with doll like lashes on top and bottom of the eye. Maximised lashes can become the focus of any Christmas party look, whether you go for full babydoll or something more subtle like the slept-in mascara look.

Eyelure has a fantastic range of sixties inspired lashes in their ‘Exaggerate’ collection. If you prefer not to use false eyelashes, Clinique has a Lash Building Primer and Yves Saint Laurent has a false eyelash effect mascara called ‘The Shock’ which adds dramatic effect. On the catwalk, make up artists drew in the lower lashes to make them stand out – translate this by investing in a good false eyelash effect mascara.

Nails

Statement nails

A key trend for winter 2017, statement nails translate well from the catwalk to the festive dance floor. There were dark florals at Novis, dark metallics at Mulberry and logos on nails at Balenciaga.

These are not styles that you can easily recreate at home, so now is the time to book the nail technician at your local salon and take some photos along with styles that you like.

Graphic eyes

Again the catwalks were channelling a sixties take on eyes with cartoon-like arches of eyeliner. Colour is applied just above the lids to graphic effect before offsetting it with contrasting colour across the lids.

Urban Decay sells a Heavy Metal eyeliner that is a perfect translation of this catwalk trend to the high street. Think Christmas party and you imagine lots of sparkle and glitter – this eyeliner gives just enough glitter to catch the light without being too garish.

Think pink

From clothes to make-up, pink has been popular for a few seasons now. This romantic trend is delicate and pretty – think cold weather flushed rose pink blushes and stained lips.

Benefit’s Benetint is a classic in the clever nail varnish like bottle – you can build on the colour for more or less. Burt’s Bees do a tinted lip balm that will give your lips the on-trend pink pop with the added benefit of protecting and moisturising dry or chapped lips.

Contouring

Contouring is still the biggest beauty buzzword and it looks like it is a trend to stay. Using a Collection Precision Contouring Stick you can enhance your cheekbones as well as sculpting the chin, nose and forehead.

This stick is  easy to use as it blends easily and is easy to apply. If you need help, there are plenty of handy YouTube tutorials for inspiration.

make up

Illuminate

Add a highlighter to your party make-up routine for a youthful look as it catches the light for a mesmerising, glowy finale. Imagine standing in candlelight and you get the idea, it’s super flattering.

Dab the highlighter onto where the light naturally hits – your cheeks, the length of the nose, above your brows and cupid’s bow.  Try NARS Illuminator for some liquid magic in a bottle!

Lip gloss

Yes, lip gloss is back. You probably haven’t worn it since the 00s and you imagine it sticking to your hair, but the good news is that it has been upgraded to a less tacky formula.

Try Victoria Beckham’s lip gloss in ‘Fired Crystal’ – she’s a pro at wearing it. It will give your lips a subtle festive iridescent shimmer that catches the light.
