Art journaling

There’s a growing number of art journaling enthusiasts on TikTok, and some of them have started to meet to craft and create together.

Art journaling is the process of creating a beautiful journal – on any subject – using craft materials. You can paint, create collages, and use stamps, stickers, and dry flowers to make your journals look stunning.

The best thing about going to an art journaling class is that you can meet other people, or go with friends. A solitary craft becomes a communal process, and you can learn some new techniques that may really appeal to you in your art journaling journey.

As an example, Dr. Sai Banerjee’s sold-out class in Kingston upon Thames is the kind of thing you could look for. And if you can’t make it to an IRL class, there are lots of them online – Skillshare is a good place to look.

Make your own rug

Now this one is amazing! You can sign up for a tufting class, which enables you to make your own rug. Tufting London, for example, offers small, medium, or large rug-creation classes, and they’re beginner-friendly, so you don’t need to feel nervous if you’ve never done it before.

Classes can take a long time – large rugs, for example, take two 6-hour workshops to complete. These would make an incredible gift for a loved one, and would be a good way to spend quality time with someone you love (and be able to take away something cool at the end of it all).

Terrarium masterclasses

This is a fun one. Terrariums are, at their most basic, a glass container with plants inside. But there’s an art to making a fun, beautiful terrarium. You can include everything from succulents to moss to stones to cute little models; the choice is yours.

Terrarium masterclasses are fun to attend, because you can learn more about the plants as you go along. Botanical Boys are a good example: they have classes for all ages, including family-friendly classes, which is perfect if you’re looking for a fun activity for kids.

Flower arranging

It’s a classic class, for good reason: flower arranging is super relaxing, and a useful skill to know. There are many flower arranging classes across the UK, so you should be able to find one near you.

These are seasonally appropriate, too. For example, you can create a spring bouquet of wildflowers over the Easter holidays, or go for wreath-making in the winter, which is a similar process and just as relaxing.

Glow in the dark painting

You could attend something like a Sip & Paint class, which is an unforgettable experience. Enjoy a couple of drinks, listen to good music, and paint in fluorescent colours. Just make sure you come in wearing old clothes you don’t mind getting covered in paint!

Glow in the dark painting is a fantastic way to switch up a regular painting class, and gives the whole thing a fun, party kind of vibe.
