Couples’ First Holidays Proven to Be the Ultimate Relationship Test

A new study commissioned by ferry operator DFDS, surveyed 1000 UK residents who are currently in relationships and found that a couple’s first holiday together is a test of future happiness.

60% of UK residents claim that their first holiday together strengthened their relationship

The research revealed that one third of people considered their first holiday with their partner to be a more important milestone then their first Valentine’s Day together. Sightseeing

As a nation we love to sample the local cuisine on holiday, with 69% of us noting this as our favourite activity for our first getaway as a couple. Out of all the age groups surveyed, 18-24 year olds are the most likely to enjoy an adrenaline fuelled activity, such as getting involved in water sports or bungee jumping.

New habits are also brought to light on our first break with a partner, as 5% of men complained that their partners were vain and spent too much time snapping selfies, while 21% of women suffered sleepless nights as they discovered that their partner snored.

53% of people found out that they had a lot in common with their partner on their first holiday

Anna Valentine-Appleby from Leeds ended up saying ‘I do’ after going on holiday: “My husband and I spontaneously booked our first holiday together even though we weren’t actually together at the time. We went online and just looked for interesting places and chose Oslo. It was through booking the holiday that we got together, so it was pretty special. We ended up having really close friends that live there and have visited Oslo five more times”

19% of people said that taking the leap to go on holiday together gave them the confidence to move in with their partner

So, if you’re in a new relationship why not take the plunge, book a getaway and discover more about the one you’re with.
