Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, who moved from Germany to New York in 1920.
The Universal Reformer has been developed from his methods. It IS pilates, using apparatus to seek deeper muscle focus, attaining greater benefits, whilst still applying the holistic physical and mental relationship of human movement, which enhances the function of the mind and body.
The movements performed on the reformer range from fundamental to advanced exercises performed in every conceivable position, and for every possible purpose. The body is in a comfortable and non weight bearing position, using the muscles with correct balance. The spine and pelvis are in neutral throughout the repertoire, for maximal functional training.
The reformer utilises smooth and fluid movements, using springs as the resistance, therefore with even weight load both on eccentric (long) and concentric (short) muscle contractions for a well balanced structure.
It teaches maintenance of correct posture and centre of gravity. It engages and recruits all the muscles of the body and is enjoyed by athletes for sport specific training and the general population for strength conditioning and toning. It is an excellent apparatus for the rehabilitation of injuries and postural correction. The workout is also cardiovascular as it is performed at an intensity and duration that requires the cardiovascular respiratory system for the supply of oxygen to the muscles.
An unprecidented and amazing piece of apparatus soon to be made available in Weston Super Mare. Contact Tamzon McFadyen for further details. The first session will be complimentary to afford you the opportunity to experience the benefits of The Universal Reformer.
