The benefits of rosemary tea

We’ve all heard of rosemary as one of those herbs to add to our dishes for flavour. Now, rosemary tea is another one of those herbal teas we need to stock up on. It’s full of medicinal qualities due to its antibacterial and antioxidant properties. The herb can aid with digestion, promote cognitive function and protect the body from heart disease and cancer.

Studies have found that rosemary can support the circulation to the brain preventing Alzheimer’s disease and enhance memory speed in elderly adults. The herb contains a constituent called carnosic acid, which is a potent antioxidant that protects the neurons in our bodies from free-radical damage. This not only increases circulation to our brain, but also protects it, enhancing our memory.

Rosemary has been traditionally used for many years now to strengthen our immune systems. The disease fighting properties in the rosemary herb fight against many different diseases and pathogens that can threaten the immune system or those which damage the body.

The powerful antibacterial properties found within rosemary can fight against infections commonly found in the stomach, such as ulcers. The herb prevents its growth whilst the anti-inflammatory properties relieves the effects of the upset stomach and help to regulate your bowel movements and gastrointestinal system.

You can get yourself a rosemary pot for as little £1.50 from your local supermarket to start growing your own garden of healthy herbs.

You’ll need:

  • 1 ½ teaspoons of rosemary needles
  • Enough hot water for one cup
  • Teapot
  • Tea Strainer
  • Your favourite mug

Method:

  1. Before brewing, you’ll need to harvest your rosemary by cutting the stem and picking the needles off by rubbing your hand down the stem.
  2. Then chop the rosemary up to release the oil, which will infuse the tea.
  3. Place the rosemary into a teapot with the hot water and allow to infuse for 3 minutes.
  4. Using your tea strainer, pour the tea into your mug and enjoy!

Please note that drinking large amounts of rosemary can cause miscarriage or may interfere with medications you are taking, especially those related to control blood pressure or diabetes. Consult your doctor for further advice.
