When it comes to oil we either relate it to cooking or to add shine to our hair. But now times are changing, and the oil we tend to use to make our delicious Sunday breakfast is now one of the most beneficial products for your skin care.

Olive oil is full of powerful properties that can repair sun damaged skin and damage from other environmental factors such as pollution and cigarette smoke. It’s full of antioxidant vitamins A and E, which penetrate deep into the skin to repair skin cells by feeding them moisture. It is the lack of moisture within our cells that leads to dry skin. The moisture we add in the form of creams, serums and oils will heal and prevents dry skin and its effects.

When used with a facial massage, olive oil has the power to improve skin elasticity and make you look younger. It is a monounsaturated fatty oil, which soaks into your skin to strengthen cells.

Make your own facial oil to repair your skin and ease tension at the end of a long day.

You will need:

  • 4-5 drops of extra virgin olive oil
  • Teaspoon of sugar (optional)

Method:

  1. Add 4-5 drops of oil to your face. Add sugar to the mixture before applying to your face for an exfolianting facial massage to rid your skin of dead cells.
  2. Begin by gently using your fingertips to rub the oil outwards for 60 seconds to circulate blood flow.
  3. Place your thumb between your eyebrows and gently press down to eliminate headaches caused by stress and anxiety.
  4. Next, with your mouth open, place your fingers on the hallow areas above your cheekbones and rub here to alleviate migraines and jaw tension.
  5. Gently press your index finger into the dent on the inner side of your eye next to your nose. With your eyes closed rub here to relieve sinus pressure, congestion and eyestrain.
  6. With a damp towel, pat your face to remove any excess oil, and reveal smooth refreshing skin.
