If you’re like me, then you know there is nothing better than a cup of coffee in the morning to get you out of bed. We all know the effects it can have on our mind and body – but what about our skin?

Coffee can reveal many wonders to your skin by using it as an exfoliating scrub. This not only tackles dry skin but also reduces cellulite, puffy eyes and premature aging.

The caffeine found in coffee is known for what wakes us up in the morning but when applied to the skin it can reduce the look of puffy eyes and even cellulite. Caffeine works by restricting the blood vessels, which makes our skin tighter and, when mixed with its anti-inflammatory properties, reduces swelling and inflammation.

Coffee is also filled with antioxidants that can prevent skin from early aging. By layering yourself with coffee beans, you can reduce the effects from the sun, pollution and other environmental aggressors. It will even out patches of discoloration, and prevent your skin from sagging with wrinkles and fine lines. Studies have shown that coffee’s powerful antioxidant can also repair damage from UV rays.

To make your own coffee scrub, try mixing instant or ground coffee with sugar and coconut oil.

You’ll need:

  • 257 grams of instant or ground coffee
  • 128 grams of brown sugar
  • 257 grams of coconut oil

  1. Pour the coffee into a mixing bowl or jug.

The higher rate of caffeine in the coffee the better the benefits. Aiming for coffee with a high factor of caffeine will prolong the tightness of skin.

  1. Mix in the sugar to the coffee beans.

Sugar is a natural humectant and a natural source of glycolic acid making it the perfect ingredient for an exfoliating scrub. It naturally provides moisture to skin and also breaks down damaged skin cells allowing your skin to look fresher and younger. We always use sugar in our skincare instead of salt, as the salt grains are harsher on skin making it tear cells and rids skin of its natural oils.

  1. Melt the coconut oil and pour it into the mixture to make it glide onto skin.

Coconut oil is known to make skin soft and smooth with its moisturizing and hydrating effects. It contains fatty acids that prevent inflammation and revitalizes the skin.

  1. Mix all the ingredients together and you’re ready to go.

Scrub into the skin, focusing on the cellulite areas, for about 60 seconds to allow the caffeine to absorb.

For best results, use a dry brush first to exfoliate and stimulate blood flow.

Top tip: Try wrapping your body in cling film to help boost the effects of the caffeine. By sweating out water weight you are increasing your chances of weight loss, including the cellulite on your body. Wrap yourself up for 20 minutes to an hour and then wash off with warm water. The longer left on the better the results by letting the scrub absorb into your skin.
