foodbank-logo-Weston-Super-Mare-foodbankThis months charity is focused around the Weston super Mare Foodbank ran by the Lighthouse charity in Weston.

This Saturday gone, The Mercury reported that just under 4,000 people have used a foodbank in the past 12 months. Even more shocking, 5.23 of Weston’s population have used the foodbank and the problem is only increasing.

What is a foodbank?
The foodbank is a resource for locals who are in crisis and in need of food. They obtain vouchers from supporting agencies such as; citizens advice, council and social workers (to name but a few). These vouchers are redeemed at the foodbank- located in North Street- for 3 days worth of food. Volunteers can also signpost those in need for longer-term guidance and advice.

What can you do?
There is many of ways to get involved with this heartfelt project. You can;
Donate– Food and/or money
Start a collection point– why not start a location point at your local school, clubs and work!
Volunteer your time– help sort food, hand food out and/or help at collection points.
Fundraise– Check out the Trussell Trust fundraising pack on the various things you can do to raise funds and awareness. There is plenty here for inspiration.

Keep up to date!
